Sign Language Interpreters’ Support Center
For the year 2017 Siloam came to an agreement with DOJF to support Persons with Hearing Impairments in Sri Lanka through establishing a Sign Language Interpreters’ Support Center at DOJF. This will be a pilot project with the objective of providing sign language interpreters’ service covering both government and private sector to assist persons with hearing impairments to communicate to obtain service.
This pilot project will be a 6 months project starting from June 2017 to December 2017. At the initial stage, the Sign Language Interpreters’ support service unit will consist of two Sign Language Interpreters. Mainly the service will be rendered in two modes. One is through technology via Skype, and smart phones (Viber, Immo, Whatsapp) and the other by appearing physically in instances where the service is needed (Sri Lanka Police, Divisional Secretariat Office, etc) within the district of Colombo. This service could be obtained mainly during office hours (from. 8.30 am to 5.00 pm) through skype and other web based modes. Service via smart phones could be obtained in addition to the office hours.
