In response to the letter sent to the Election Commission by the DOJF proposing to establish an Inter-Central Election Committee in the Election Commission for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities and simultaneously to establish Inter-Central Election Committees at the district level to discuss the above-mentioned proposals with the DOJF in August 2022 On the 8th of the month, the Election Commission gave the opportunity to the DOJF. All members including the Chairman of the Election Commission participated in this discussion. Also, the Election Commissioner General, the Assistant Election Commissioner who deals with the election affairs of persons with disabilities also participated. President Mr. Nihal Paranagama, General Secretary Ms. Rasanjali Pathirage, Mr. Prasanna Kuruppu, Mr. Brian Susantha, Ms. Pushpa Ramanayake, Mr. Asanga Perera, Ms. Gayatri Navaratne, and Mr. Nalinda Nagolla participated in representing the United Front. Also, Mr. Rohana Hettiarachchi of Paffrel Association and Mr. Manjula Gajanayake of Shah Ayres Association also participated in representing election observation organizations.
During this discussion, the special problems faced by the disabled community during the election due to their disability and in general the facilities and mechanisms they need during the election process were discussed. Under that, the importance of establishing an inter-central committee for persons with disabilities in the Election Commission and the nature of that committee were commented on. Finally, the chairman of the commission suggested that proposals should be submitted to the commission regarding the functions and composition of the inter-central committee. The representatives of the DOJF agreed to submit the recommendations promptly.
